NEW HAVEN, CT — The emergency medical services and firefighting community in New Haven and surrounding areas is mourning the sudden death of paramedic Thomas “TJ” Kochera, who passed away on June 5, 2026.
Kochera was a long-serving member of American Medical Response (AMR) Bridgeport, where he worked since 2012. Over the course of his career, he responded to a wide range of emergency calls and was recognized by colleagues for his professionalism, clinical skill, and consistent commitment to patient care.
Co-workers described him as a dependable and supportive presence in the field, noting his ability to remain composed during high-pressure situations while maintaining a compassionate approach to patients. He was also known within the EMS community for fostering teamwork and supporting newer staff members.
